Zhuhai sits on the west side of the Pearl River estuary, directly across the border from Macau. It is a green, low-key seaside city rather than a city of monuments. The reasons to come are the long bayfront promenade of Lovers’ Road, the Fisher Girl statue, the marine park at Chimelong on Hengqin, fresh seafood, and the easiest crossings into Macau.
It suits families, travelers adding Macau to a Guangdong trip, and anyone who wants a slower day by the water after the big cities. Guangzhou is about an hour away by high-speed train, and Shenzhen and Hong Kong are across the estuary.
Arrive by train from Guangzhou South at Zhuhai Station, a short walk from Gongbei Port. Spend the first afternoon on Lovers’ Road: walk or rent a bike north along the bay to the Fisher Girl and the shell-shaped Grand Theatre on Yeli Island, then eat seafood in the evening. Give the second day to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom on Hengqin, or to Macau.
For Macau, cross on foot at Gongbei or take the train to Hengqin and use the 24-hour port there. Macau has its own entry rules, and coming back is a new entry to the mainland, so read our visa-free entry guide before you plan the loop. If you arrive from Hong Kong, the bridge shuttle bus from the Hong Kong port near the airport is a direct route. Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you come; our payments guide explains how.
